The Different Types Of PR

A free article on Advertising

By: Christopher Reinhold

The term business PR is one that is an umbrella term for a range of public relations options related to businesses. Whilst many people say that they are carrying out this type of public relations, they generally mean that they are implanting various different types of public relations.

This variation can vary considerably, but the main objective is to ensure that clients main aim, whether it is the promotion of a new product or the improvement of client relations, is carried out effectively and fully achieved.

Media. By carrying out media PR, companies will be utilising a vast array of different media types to implement a successful campaign. A prime example of the use of media public relations is when a business is looking to launch a new product in a certain area of the country. A PR company would look to use advertisements on television, in newspapers and magazines and on radio.

The important thing to remember about this type of public relations is that is not simply a matter of purchasing airtime on a radio or paying for a half-page spread in a newspaper. A large amount of media PR is carrying out extensive research to ensure that the most appropriate media types are chosen and in the most suitable locations.

Digital. When public relations first began to be used, it essentially revolved around the use of the different types of media. From newspapers and publications to billboards and television advertisements, it revolved around almost solely around these factors.

However, in recent years, there has been a new type of PR introduced to the industry, which is taking the name of digital PR.

In essence, this encompasses all possible factors of advertising and public relations that can be classed as digital, which are primarily those that are internet based.

A key example of something that would come under this heading is the arranging and purchasing of online advertising on websites. A professional company will be able to research appropriate and suitable websites and provide recommendations on the different types of advertising methods and options that are available.

Similar to its media counterpart, digital PR is not just, taking the above as an example, purchasing advertisements on websites, but requires extensive research to ensure the that the most suitable options are chosen.

Retail. Unlike other types of public relations, retail PR is not a term that encompasses different ways of carrying out advertising or promotion, but is a phrase that covers the use of public relations in regards to retail stores, outlets and companies.

As with the digital variation, the retail term is a relatively new phrase, even though public relations, in one form or another, has been carried out for years for retail companies. However, due to how new the phrase and specific public relations work is, it can be difficult to find a high quality company to carry out the work effectively. If a company does not have large amounts of experience with this type of method, it is important to ensure that the company is reputable in other areas of public relations, with examples and references to back their claims up.
