Improving your Internet Presence and Raising your Online Profile

The internet is the single largest shopping portal by any stretch of the imagination, whether you are "high street" shopping, or you are conducting business online. With 37 million users currently logging on every day, and the rate of increase in users predicted to rise at 200% per annum, the numbers are quite literally mind boggling. So just imagine that you could tap into this enormous potential and send even just a tiny percentage of this total amount of "traffic" to your website.
Okay, we know that if you are selling a bespoke product or service, it is hardly likely to be relevant to all 37 million web users; but the principle is still very much the same. So what do you need to do to enable your website to have this sort of pulling power?
Well, you need two things. First and foremost you must have a known web presence, and secondly, you must attract targeted "traffic".
One estimate put the number of live websites on the Internet at 170 million. That's an awful lot of websites; but the fact of the matter is that a huge amount of these sites will never, ever be found by anyone. Why? Because no one is even remotely aware that they exist.
The path to getting your website recognised is not exactly rocket science, but it is quite involved, and requires in depth knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) as well as other internet marketing methods, such as social media optimisation, pay per click campaigns, etc. Some people do opt to do this for themselves, but for many, it is just too time consuming. Additionally, to be really effective, it does require expert knowledge; what particular mix would be best for your own unique website and product/service range, and how to go about applying it.
This is why the majority of website owners are now turning to web marketing consultants to analyse and apply the right mix of SEO and online marketing. Not only do they find that they get better results (i.e. their website ranking improves), but they also find that it frees up their time to get on with the running of their own businesses.
For those of you who are not familiar with either SEO or the term "ranking", here is a little background. When most people are searching the net for products or services, they do so by entering the details of what they are searching for into their browser windows. Their search engine will then carry out the search and will produce, (on screen), a search engine report of the sites that it has found that have the most relevance to that particular search.
The site that appears on the top of the report, (on page one), is the top ranked site in relation to that search term. So, in essence, SEO is all about getting you a good enough ranking with the major search engines, (Google, Yahoo, etc), to get your site as high as practicable on page one. Statistics show that most people who have carried out a search do not look down beyond the first page.
The other difficulty with SEO is knowing what criteria the search engines use in order to rank sites and keeping pace with the trends and changes to these algorithms. This in itself can be like a full time task, even without the added strain of keeping up with social media marketing, blogging and managing pay per click campaigns.
It makes sense that the great majority of website owners find a web marketing consultant service that they trust and feel that they can work with, in the same way that they get an accountant to deal with their accounts and taxes. A good internet marketer will enable you to maximise the traffic to your website, while you get on with running your business.
