Stress is a major reason why so many of us have failing health. When we do not attempt to relieve tension and stress, there is a real life consequence that accompanies that action. People receive stress from what seems like every possible direction. Just when you think you have everything caught up and taken care of, something else happens. It will always be this way, but the bright thing about it is that there is a way to handle the stress that comes with life so it doesn't get the best of you.

One of the best ways to handle stress is to exercise. Everyone should take at least 30 minutes a day to either walk or jog. Cardiovascular exercise increases the health of the cardiovascular system, which is one of the things that suffer when an individual goes under a lot of stress. Daily activity will build up a resistance to stress, making it more difficult for the heart and overall cardiovascular system to become effected. Another thing that daily exercise does is create a release of "feel good" endorphins inside of the brain as well as promotes natural serotonin production. You will automatically feel better and have a much harder time coming down from your natural "high". When this is done consistently, it begins to create a lasting result and permanent resistance to stress.

Another stress management skill to use is to allow yourself some daily "me" time. Everyone needs personal time for themselves in order to think and just relax. It is important that your personal time be as relaxing as possible, and not involve the use of the internet, telephone, or television. This time needs to be specifically for you. A time to sit in peace and enjoy life. It might even just involve going outside and watching the sunset everyday. It could also involve a short drive to your favorite book store. Just make sure that it is a time with no disturbance, just you and your own sense of inner peace.

One other stress management skill is owning a pet. Scientific research suggests that owning a pet naturally lowers blood pressure and can add years to a person's life. Just knowing you have something that cares for, loves, and needs you is enough to make you feel as if you have a sense of purpose in this life. Owning a journal to write down all of your thoughts can also create a feeling of release. Once you are finished with writing down negative thoughts, burn or rip up the paper as a means of destroying them. You will feel much better.

Try to practice at least one or all of these stress management skills on a daily basis. Chances are that you stress levels will decrease dramatically and all areas of your life will improve just as much. It is unreal how much that stress can hinder us, but it is clearly visible in most individuals. Allow stress management to become a top priority in your life for a better, happier sense of being.
